Privacy policy

Cover Screen Trackpad collects nothing about you. It has no analytics, no accounts and no advertising. We run no server, so there is nowhere for your data to go — and the app never sends anything anywhere on its own.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no analytics of any kind, nothing is sold or handed on to anyone, and none of the app’s own code contacts the network. It has no ability to send anything anywhere unless you deliberately do it yourself.

Three honest qualifications, because a flat “nothing, ever” would not be quite true of the app you install:

• Buying PRO goes through Google Play. The purchase is handled by Google’s billing library, which is part of the app and does talk to Google Play to check whether you have bought it. That is why the app lists the internet permission. We never see your payment details, and no purchase information reaches us — Google simply tells the app yes or no.
• Android backs up your settings, if you let it. Android’s own Auto Backup is switched on for this app, so your settings are included in the Google backup of your phone and come back if you reinstall or move to a new device. That backup belongs to you and lives in your Google account; we have no access to it. You can switch it off in Android’s backup settings.
• If you send a problem report, you send it yourself. The app has a button that opens your email app with a description of your phone and your settings already written out — Android version, phone model, cover screen size, which permissions are granted, and what the app did in the last few minutes. Nothing is sent until you read it and press send, and you can delete any line first. The app has no way to send it on its own, and no server to send it to.
  
  Your cover screen message and the position of your pointer are deliberately left out, because they are yours and neither helps us fix anything. If you do send a report, we hold the email you sent, and nothing else.

What stays on your phone

Your settings — pointer size and speed, gesture choices, the active zone, and whether you have unlocked PRO — are saved in the app’s private storage, which no other app can read. Uninstalling deletes them from the device; if Android’s Auto Backup is on, a copy stays in your own Google backup so a reinstall can restore them.

Permissions, and why each one exists

• Accessibility Service. This is how the app draws the pointer and performs taps, drags and scrolls on your behalf — the same mechanism a mouse would use. It is not used to read screen content for any other purpose, and nothing it observes leaves the device.
• Display over other apps. Draws the pointer above whatever you are using, so it stays visible as you move between apps.
• Notifications. Shows the notice while the trackpad is running, an easy way to stop the app.
• Shizuku. Used to ask Android to power both screens at once, and to send a camera key if you assign the camera shutter to the three-finger tap. (That gesture is not offered on the Flip 3 or Flip 4, whose cover screens can only feel two fingers at a time, so on those phones no camera key is ever sent.) Shizuku is a separate app with its own privacy policy.

The app does not request the camera, microphone, location, contacts or storage permissions. It does list the internet permission, which comes with Google’s billing library and is used only to ask Google Play whether PRO has been purchased.

A note on the accessibility permission

Accessibility access is powerful, and you are right to be careful about which apps you grant it to. Cover Screen Trackpad needs it for one reason: injecting pointer movement and clicks is only possible through that API.

It uses that access to notice two things about your screen, and nothing else:

• Whether a keyboard is up, so that edge-click scrolling switches off while you type and does not fight the keys along the bottom of the screen.
• That something on screen changed — not what changed. Android will quietly take the cover screen back when apps come and go, which would switch the trackpad off mid-use, so the app treats any such change as a cue to check it still has the cover screen and take it back if not. Only the fact that something happened is used; nothing about what.

It does not read the text on your screen, and it does not log, store or transmit anything it sees.

Purchases

The one-time PRO unlock is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see your payment details. The app only records, on your device, whether the purchase exists.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date. Because the app collects nothing, any change would be about clarity rather than about new data collection.
